What happened
In FY25, Navi reported a net loss of Rs 126 crore, swinging from a Rs 358.5 crore profit in FY24, with revenue up 18% to Rs 2,565 crore
Why it matters
The loss came after the RBI lifted restrictions on Navi Finserv's lending in December 2024, and a one-time gain in FY24 inflated the prior year's profit
The details
- Navi Technologies reported a net loss of Rs 126 crore for FY25, compared to a profit of Rs 358.5 crore in FY24.
- Revenue from operations grew 18% year-on-year to Rs 2,565 crore in FY25, up from Rs 2,180 crore in FY24.
- Interest income rose 21% to Rs 2,178 crore, making up 85% of total revenue.
- Fees, commissions, and allied services brought in Rs 387 crore in FY25.
- Total expenses increased 10% to Rs 2,730 crore in FY25, driven by higher finance costs and employee benefits.
- The FY24 profit included a one-time gain of Rs 189.5 crore from selling a subsidiary, which did not repeat in FY25.
- The RBI had ordered Navi Finserv to halt new loan sanctions in October 2024, but lifted the restrictions in December 2024 after Navi fixed compliance issues.
The bigger picture
- The swing to a loss is mainly due to the absence of the one-time gain from the subsidiary sale in FY24.
- Impairment on financial instruments rose 17% to Rs 578 crore, reflecting higher credit costs.
- Finance costs increased 21% to Rs 850 crore, squeezing margins.
- The RBI action in late 2024 disrupted lending operations, impacting the full-year performance.
- Despite the loss, revenue growth of 18% shows the core business expanded.
