What they do
Groww is a Bengaluru investing app with over 2 crore active users and roughly ₹4 lakh crore in assets
What happened
It began offering US stocks and ETFs last week through GIFT City, with all users expected to get access within a month
Why it matters
Futures and options brought in 52% of June-quarter revenue, so Groww is adding products to lean on them less
The details
- Groww started a phased rollout of US stock investing last week.
- Users can trade over 10,000 US stocks and ETFs, including fractional shares.
- The service runs through GIFT City, where Groww got an IFSCA licence in July.
- US broker infrastructure comes from Alpaca Securities.
- Every user should have it within about a month.
The bigger picture
- Groww wants to depend less on F&O trading (futures and options), which was 52% of June-quarter revenue.
- Indian interest in US tech and AI stocks has grown with strong Nasdaq returns and a weaker rupee.
About the business
- Groww is an app where people in India can buy and sell stocks and invest in mutual funds, ETFs, bonds and IPOs.
- Its customers are individual retail investors, many of them first-time investors who open an account on the phone without paperwork.
- It earns mainly from brokerage fees (a small charge on each trade) and from charges on futures and options trading; direct mutual fund plans carry no charge.
- It also sells margin trading (lending money to customers so they can buy more shares than they could pay for), commodities and, from late September 2026, US stocks.
- Its own site says it is India's largest stockbroker by active users on the NSE, with over 2 crore (20 million) investors.
- It is based in Bengaluru and runs fully online.
What happens next
- Full rollout to all users is expected over the next month.
