What they do
A hacker accessed contact and order data of about 700 customers via stolen employee credentials
What happened
The breach comes months after a US import ban over a patent dispute with Oura
Why it matters
The company turned profitable in FY25 with ₹71.5 Cr net profit
The details
- On March 27, an unauthorised third-party gained read-only access to Ultrahuman's internal analytics systems.
- The access was achieved using credentials stolen from a malware-infected employee laptop.
- The hackers accessed contact details, account details, order history, and transaction history of about 0.1% of users.
- Based on ~7 lakh monthly active users, at least 700 customers were impacted.
- Ultrahuman's CEO confirmed that passwords, payment info, and wellness data were not leaked.
- The company took the impacted system offline, revoked all access, and implemented remediation: hardened employee device security, increased access audit frequency, and deployed anomaly detection.
- As of the notification date, no evidence of publication or misuse of the accessed information was found.
- The delay in informing users and regulators was due to auditing the full scope of the incident.
The bigger picture
- The breach comes after a legal tussle with Finnish competitor Oura in the US.
- The US ITC ruled that Ultrahuman smart rings infringed an Oura patent, leading to a months-long import ban that cost up to $50 Mn in lost sales.
- Ultrahuman re-entered the US market in March 2026 with the Ring Pro, redesigned to address patent claims.
- The company turned profitable in FY25 with a net profit of ₹71.5 Cr, compared to a loss of ₹37.7 Cr in FY24.
- Operating revenue surged nearly 5X to ₹564.7 Cr in FY25 from ₹104.6 Cr in FY24.
About the business
- The primary market is the US, which brings the majority of revenues.
